Hosting repositories like the 19-million document MAREC multilingual patent corpus.
Industry Cooperation
Bridging academia and commerce to solve real-world IP and search scaling challenges.
What used to be on these pages?
- /research: The IRF specialized in information retrieval benchmarks. They designed advanced algorithms for parsing text and non-text elements of highly technical patent corpora, scaling query speeds, and researching natural language understanding tools. See the Information Retrieval Facility Wikipedia entry and the proceedings of the 5th IRF Conference (IRFC 2012) .
- /prototypes: This was the download node for MAREC (Matrixware Research Collection), an XML-standardized collection of ~19 million patent documents from EPO, USPTO, WIPO and JPO sources (1976–2008). The corpus is still available for research from TU Wien (also documented on Wikipedia ).
- /industry-cooperation: The IRF acted as an open eScience hub, running symposiums and conferences (including IRFC events) sponsored by industry partners to connect patent professionals with university researchers. Historical site snapshots are preserved on the Internet Archive .
Where to find active data assets today:
- Original Web Archives: Browse historical layouts of the old IRF site via the Internet Archive Wayback Machine .
- Modern Open Datasets: Current patent bulk data is available from the USPTO Open Data Portal and the European Patent Office Bulk Data Sets .
